Riders can fine-tune the positive air spring characteristics using volume spacers. Using a shorter stanchion saves weight and creates an overall lightweight system. When the fork compresses, the air volume in the lower legs decreases, increasing air pressure. The more the fork compresses, the more the pressure rises. This effect can undesirably prevent reaching full suspension travel. Channels in the lower legs help solve this problem by drastically increasing the air volume in the lower legs, thus reducing the additional, unintended pressure increase.
